You Better Than A Beggar?

I thought I was. But then again Buddha, Jesus, Gandhi begged. Now I’m not so sure.

Heart

Do you give money to street corner beggars?

I don’t.

I size them up, if they can flip a burger, then I look the other way. Come on now, get a job like the rest of us.

If they’re physically handicapped, then sometimes I donate (if I have cash and if I have bills that are small enough).

🫢 Cringe . . . but true. Must keep it 100.

Sure every soul has value and blah blah. But between us, I know I’m smarter, happier, and more developed than beggars. I’m a Super Sapien!

But am I though ❓️❓️

Then why do I relentlessly measure myself against you?

Your money, your house, your weight, your muscle, your trips, your kids’ accomplishments, your grades, your hair, your humor, your clout?

Buddha was a beggar.

Jesus was many things, including a beggar.

Bumming food off friends, crashing on his sister’s couch, couldn’t hold down the carpenter job.

He felt the pull of a greater calling 💫

A modern day example: Ghandi died with a measly $3 to his name . . . yet had 2 million people attend his funeral.

One more time » 2 million.

For all I “know” . . . that ‘lowly’ beggar might flip a miracle with the 2 fish and 5 loaves they just bummed.

Might have millions attend their funeral.

Might be materially poor, but spiritually loaded » unburdened ☮️

100? Okay 100: I statistically spend most waking hours on Earth trying to make more money. It’s ironic because I already have more than I need.

Is there something higher?

🏘️ In 2025 there are 770,000 homeless people in the United States.

That’s nearly the number of total COVID deaths in the US.

1 out of every 530 Americans are homeless.
